The Lord's Prayer (Pater Noster) in Phuthi[edit]

Ntate whetfu lakelitûlwînî,
Libîto lakho lihalaletswe;
Mmûso whakho ute;
Itshadzo yhakho iyetwe eliphaseni
jhaloga iyetwa elitûlwînî.
ùsiphe lamuhlajhe mukhupha whetfu
whelilaga lelinye lhalelinye;
ùsimabhele miladvu yhetfu
jhaloga lhatshi simabhela labasisîdzelwe;
ùgasiyisi emuligweni,
ùmbhe ùsitfukulle ebubînî.
(Kuba mmûso lhemadla lhekhanya yhitakho,
gemihla lhemihla.)

  • This translation of the Our Father (Lord's Prayer) into Phuthi -- in the Mpapa/Daliwe dialect of the language -- was done in Mpapa Village, near Mount Moorosi, Lesotho, in June 1995. The translators were Khethang Rateleki, Maloro Matlama and Simon Donnelly (1995, Emavi kuMulîmu [Words/Voices to God]. ms, University of Illinois, Urbana).
