Hallo,

[edit]

Hi. Just now I have seen that your domain has been created - Congratulations!!! I wish you all good luck with installing it. Ask here if you have a need to. And, please after you or somebody else has moved the pages to the new domain, take care that all those pages will be deleted here. Thanks. Once again - good luck. -jkb- 08:53, 26 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

We will take a look. But I've seen we miss a few pages, so first that needs to be solved. Hönkelberg 05:04, 27 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

What language?

[edit]

Hello Ooswesthoesbes,

Le ingeniose hidalgo don Quixote de La Mancha, Libro 1, Capitulo VII seems to be neither Spanish nor Italian though it resembles both, is it one of them? have you deleted it for a language reason, or for another reason that I have not understood? Regards,

Seems to be a part of this. --Zyephyrus 21:19, 14 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
No, I have deleted it because it was vandalism and insulting. --Ooswesthoesbes 05:01, 15 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Bureaucrats

[edit]

As you probably know, Thomas V resigned recently as bureaucrat, leaving me as the only bureaucrat. It would be good to have this position backed up. You are one of three people who is already an admin, and who has the longevity and recent activity to warrant such an appointment. Please let me know your feelings on this. Hi. I have just posted a paper Wikisource:Proposal, please have a look at it. Many points must be changed or added. But as a first step... I'm also not quite sure if the page name is OK, move it if you think something else would be better. Regards -jkb- 09:08, 10 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

I'll take a look :) Well, "proposal" might indeed be a bit vague if you don't know about what it is, but it's a short name, which is also quite useful :) --Ooswesthoesbes 10:39, 10 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Bot status

[edit]

Hi, is there any way to give User:Wizarbot bot flag. It's my bot. It maintains backstage work in Belarusian (Taraškievica) Wikipedia, and here I use it for routine work such as category moving. Wizardist 11:31, 10 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Sure, you can leave a bot flag request at the scriptorium: here. --Ooswesthoesbes 04:41, 11 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Can you please have a look at my bot request and transwiki request

[edit]

See User_talk:Zyephyrus#Do_you_think_these_are_ready.3F, Zeph has not responded. Can you take a look? I was told it would be best if a local crat closed the Transwiki request and the bot request has been there even longer. I mentioned this in my e-mail but it may have gotten buried in the revdel stuff. Thanks.--Doug.(talk contribs) 17:07, 23 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Getting started as a translator

[edit]

Thanks for the welcome. I am still unfamiliar enough with Wiki language and structure that I do not quite understand the procedure for choosing and translating a page. I am mostly interested in Spanish to English, almost any subject, but I also could do some Eng. to Span. depending on the material.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Wikisource:Scriptorium#Import_Upload_-_revisited has gotten no comments. The earlier thread had two supports (yours being one) but got archived at the end of the year. Should I restart the thread on Wikisource:Administrators or do you think the prior comments are sufficient for this rather obscure right. There has been no action on the bug so this remains a problem. Thanks.--Doug.(talk contribs) 10:52, 9 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

I suggest you place a request on Wikisource:Administrators. Probably you don't have to expect a lot of voting here, but it's a clearer and more obvious place to request permissions. --Ooswesthoesbes (talk) 04:35, 10 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

An important message about renaming users

[edit]

Dear Ooswesthoesbes,

I am cross-posting this message to many places to make sure everyone who is a Wikimedia Foundation project bureaucrat receives a copy. If you are a bureaucrat on more than one wiki, you will receive this message on each wiki where you are a bureaucrat.

As you may have seen, work to perform the Wikimedia cluster-wide single-user login finalisation (SUL finalisation) is taking place. This may potentially effect your work as a local bureaucrat, so please read this message carefully.

Why is this happening? As currently stated at the global rename policy, a global account is a name linked to a single user across all Wikimedia wikis, with local accounts unified into a global collection. Previously, the only way to rename a unified user was to individually rename every local account. This was an extremely difficult and time-consuming task, both for stewards and for the users who had to initiate discussions with local bureaucrats (who perform local renames to date) on every wiki with available bureaucrats. The process took a very long time, since it's difficult to coordinate crosswiki renames among the projects and bureaucrats involved in individual projects.

The SUL finalisation will be taking place in stages, and one of the first stages will be to turn off Special:RenameUser locally. This needs to be done as soon as possible, on advice and input from Stewards and engineers for the project, so that no more accounts that are unified globally are broken by a local rename to usurp the global account name. Once this is done, the process of global name unification can begin. The date that has been chosen to turn off local renaming and shift over to entirely global renaming is 15 September 2014, or three weeks time from now. In place of local renames is a new tool, hosted on Meta, that allows for global renames on all wikis where the name is not registered will be deployed.

Your help is greatly needed during this process and going forward in the future if, as a bureaucrat, renaming users is something that you do or have an interest in participating in. The Wikimedia Stewards have set up, and are in charge of, a new community usergroup on Meta in order to share knowledge and work together on renaming accounts globally, called Global renamers. Stewards are in the process of creating documentation to help global renamers to get used to and learn more about global accounts and tools and Meta in general as well as the application format. As transparency is a valuable thing in our movement, the Stewards would like to have at least a brief public application period. If you are an experienced renamer as a local bureaucrat, the process of becoming a part of this group could take as little as 24 hours to complete. You, as a bureaucrat, should be able to apply for the global renamer right on Meta by the requests for global permissions page on 1 September, a week from now.

In the meantime please update your local page where users request renames to reflect this move to global renaming, and if there is a rename request and the user has edited more than one wiki with the name, please send them to the request page for a global rename.

Stewards greatly appreciate the trust local communities have in you and want to make this transition as easy as possible so that the two groups can start working together to ensure everyone has a unique login identity across Wikimedia projects. Completing this project will allow for long-desired universal tools like a global watchlist, global notifications and many, many more features to make work easier.

If you have any questions, comments or concerns about the SUL finalisation, read over the Help:Unified login page on Meta and leave a note on the talk page there, or on the talk page for global renamers. You can also contact me on my talk page on meta if you would like. I'm working as a bridge between Wikimedia Foundation Engineering and Product Development, Wikimedia Stewards, and you to assure that SUL finalisation goes as smoothly as possible; this is a community-driven process and I encourage you to work with the Stewards for our communities.

Thank you for your time. -- Keegan (WMF) talk 18:24, 25 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Help with harassment by cs.wikisource admins

Wikisource:Active tests, and Erzya and Moksha languages

[edit]

Hello, Ooswesthoesbes! I have noticed the page Wikisource:Active tests which was created by you, and I also noticed that you had included there a line about Erzya language which is supported here by me. Just in case, I would like to notice you that one more language probably may be added there — Moksha (main page here: Moksha, and category: Category:Мокшень, and the only contributor is also me — Nigmont). The languages Erzya and Moksha are the two Mordvinic languages and are close relatives to each other, so I support and develop here the Wikisources of both of them, not only Erzya. But if you really knew about Moksha language here, and just decided that this language is currently isn't worth to be added — then no problem, I'm comfortable with that. Anyway I don't expect that any of these languages' WS'es would become fit to apply for its own subdomain in recent time (for example, during the current year), so noticing them on the page Wikisource:Active tests is anyway currently rather formal than of any practical use. Regards, Nigmont (talk) 20:24, 1 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for informing me about that! As my Cyrillic is rather rusty, I hadn't noticed that. I will add Moksha to the list. While the test are both not eligible for approval, because they are basically one-man projects at the moment, I still add them to the list. That is to have a complete overview of which tests are (at least a little bit) active. If either one of the tests get at least one (or maybe two) extra contributors, they are already close to approval. --Ooswesthoesbes (talk) 08:44, 2 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

importer rights

[edit]

Hi,

as you are the only active user who has importer rights, can you import pages from this fr.ws index (local copy)? I started doing that manually, but this is ugly. Pages from Page:Freud - La Psychopathologie de la vie quotidienne, 1922, trad. Jankélévitch.djvu/64 to Page:Freud - La Psychopathologie de la vie quotidienne, 1922, trad. Jankélévitch.djvu/348 still needs to be imported.

I have prepared (exported from fr.ws, changed ns names/numbers) to be imported to save you that work (of course, you can do this again to verify it). I have sent the file to you via e-mail. Note: that massive import of many revissions often fails; then you need to remove the fully imported pages data from the script and import again.

The procedure to request importer right from stewards is ugly (especially requirement to renew the right every few months and because the requirement for import is in most cases urgent - copyvio pages are deleted quickly on other wikisources). Also, I cannot find any API script for massive import; maybe it is time to create one, but this also needs time. Ankry (talk) 20:30, 2 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

I will take a look into this when I'm at home. --Ooswesthoesbes (talk) 08:09, 4 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

I am afraid I don't know how a grant will help. Mainly because the situation in for example Italy is different from the Netherlands. Inactive bots

[edit]

Hi! When I reworked Wikisource:Bots, I noticed that many of the accounts that have bot status here have not been active in many years. I think it would be a good idea to go through the list and remove the bot status from the ones that haven't made any edits in, say, 3 years or so. An account with bot status in the wrong hands (if they have an insecure password, for instance) can cause a lot of damage before someone notices it. Jon Harald Søby (talk) 21:04, 21 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

JhsBot

[edit]

Hi! I've written a script that lets us change the page language for all pages in a category (or other criteria) to the correct language, but I need to test it. In order to be able to test it, my bot needs the pagelang right, which is not available to bots by default, but is available to translation administrators. So the question is, could you please grant User:JhsBot translation administrator status temporarily (for a week or so) so I can test that the script works as it should, and then I will ask for community consensus to put it into practice once it works? deleted user pages

[edit]

Hi,

IMO, the user pages you have deleted today are rather newbie's auto-promotion than classical spam.

While I do not contest their deletion, I think it would be nice to redirect such newbies (maybe, even in the welcome message?) to a page describing what user pages can contain and what they cannot. I suggest copying main sections from w:en:WP:User pages and they may get translated after reaching some final form. Do you think that we need to gather some consensus to create such a page (which will be actually a kind of Wikisource rules) or just create it? Ankry (talk) 14:07, 12 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Usually, pages like those are not really policy, but more like a guide. Copying it is fine with me :) --Ooswesthoesbes (talk) 14:11, 12 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Wikisource:Active tests

Hello, can you explain to me what I need to do to fix the mention badly categorized for Walloon project ? Greetings, Reptilien.19831209BE1 (talk) 12:32, 11 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

@User:Reptilien.19831209BE1: Hi! :) Categorization is important when the Walloon test is approved and moved to its own subdomain. For this import to succeed, it is important that all pages can be found in Category:Walon or its subcategories. As it stands, many subpages and templates (such as Page:Antoine Bouhon - Les deux maisses d’armes, 1896.djvu/22 and Template:Pådjes) are still uncategorized. Ideally, they should be categorized into Category:Walon as well. It would be even better if everything related to Walon is categorized, which even includes talk pages (such as Talk:Dji r’mousse adlé nos), but this is less of a concern.
Please note, however, that the Active tests page has not been updated for a long time. --Ooswesthoesbes (talk) 19:02, 11 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)
