A number of Wikipedia-like pages about US and UK politics
[edit]These pages that have been recently created, look like Wikipedia-like articles about US or UK political persons, or political events (such as elections etc.). These pages are seemingly out of scope here, and should be deleted. The users who created them should be advised to create these articles on the English Wikipedia or edit already existing articles (the second is much more likely since those persons are well-known and articles about them do already exist):
- 2020 United States presidential election
- Betthany Hogg
- Carl Rob
- Deputy Prime Minister of the United Tees
- Donald Trump
- Doug Emhoff
- Elizabeth–Gladys II
- Excellency
- J. D. Vance
- Joe Biden
- Joe Biden 2020 presidential campaign
- Kamala Harris
- Kamala Harris 2020 presidential campaign

A History of Hindu Civilisation during British Rule
[edit]Index:A History of Hindu Civilisation during British Rule Vol 1.djvu, Vol 2 and Vol 3 already exist on the English Wikisource (see Vol 1, Vol 2, Vol 3).
I've cleaned up the pages that were created here and copied them over to the English Wikisource. The pages were identical to the automatic OCR version (before I edited them), so copying the page history doesn't seem necessary.

All kinds of crazy, spurious content in Category:Igbo
[edit]Thanks to Aleator abovebelow, I see that this category is polluted with a bunch of weird noise. I know how I'll be spending my day now. Just documenting here so other admins know. —Justin (koavf)❤T☮C☺M☯ 22:11, 24 September 2024 (UTC)
What happened here was a huge rash of completely inane and off-topic pages were created by the following users and categorized under Category:Igbo. Most of them have several hundred to several thousand edits on other WMF wikis (a couple have only a few dozen) and several of them have sufficient English skills that they could explain what is going on here.

This led to a total of over 4,400 pages in the Author, Index, Page, and Template namespaces that were almost exclusively either copy/pasted from en.ws or were OCR scanned with Igbo as the default language, marked as proofread (when they were not), and then kept here from two runs of edits: October and November 2023 and May and June 2024. The fact that thousands of these pages could be added with no one noticing for a year is a huge failure on our part (and myself included as an admin). I'm open to whatever proposals we have to try to limit this kind of noise in the future as it is a huge waste of everyone's time. (I suspect that most of the above users weren't terribly inconvenienced, since they didn't actually do any proofreading, but it still took several person-hours to set up all this nonsense. As for me, it has taken maybe six hours total to delete all of it.)
My approach to this was to delete everything they have added. Some texts could plausibly be hosted here, as noted below. I saw only two texts that were multilingual (both English and something else) so they could have fit this scope, but the actual content was all garbage. I did not look at every page, so if anyone knows of pages that were not-junk, please alert me and I will undelete. I have decided to indef block everyone and leave talk page access, as it seems like they aren't coming back and they appear to generally be good faith actors on other WMF wikis. This was wildly inappropriate and disruptive editing that was clearly nonsensical and resulted in a raft of complete junk. All of the above should have been pinged by {{user}} above and I am interested in any of them explaining themselves on their talk pages. Any of you who do, please use {{Ping}} to alert me.
From editing patterns and use of language, it does seem like these are not all sockpuppet accounts, but we don't have local CheckUsers, so it's not possible to locally investigate. It is obvious that this was coordinated editing, likely on Meta due to a user group that they are members of.
Any thoughts on what we can do to avoid this in the future? Thanks to Aleator for bringing this to our attention. —Justin (koavf)❤T☮C☺M☯ 05:22, 25 September 2024 (UTC)

- May24 => m:Igbo Wikimedians User Group/Events/2024 Activities. It links to [1] with a second list of users, every one of each links its Wikisources's editions.
- So it seems it was some kind of good faith hackaton. Let's wait for feedback. But jamais deux sans trois ;). Aleator 18:45, 25 September 2024 (UTC)
- This is invaluable. Emilliana
[edit]Hi folks! All Index, Page and Author namespaces, created by Emilliana (talk • contribs • global contribs), should be deleted. They are bot copied from enWS and/or bad OCRed English or a disaster (author pages). Almost 500 pages, I just reviewed some dozens and I got depressed. -Aleator 20:51, 24 September 2024 (UTC)
- Dang. They are too old for
Mass DeleteNuke, so I'll have to use the more manual MassDelete option. Looking at several of them, they are indeed malformed and in English, so they don't belong here. Thanks. I'll get started on it. :/ —Justin (koavf)❤T☮C☺M☯ 20:54, 24 September 2024 (UTC)
Oluchinaza
[edit]Some of the bot uploads by Oluchinaza (talk • contribs • global contribs). Some seem automatic not-proofread translations into Igbo language, from English. OK, I can't judge. But the next ones are not:
- Indexes in English with 0 pages (they belong to enWS):
- Index:A dictionary of heraldry.djvu
- Index:A Dictionary of Music and Musicians vol 1.djvu
- Index:A Dictionary of Music and Musicians vol 2.djvu
- Index:A Handbook of the Theory and Practice of Medicine - Volume I - Frederick T. Roberts.djvu

- Index:A handbook of modern Japan (IA handbookofmodern01clem).pdf
- Index:A Handbook of Colloquial Japanese (2nd ed.).djvu
- Index:A Handbook of Colloquial Japanese (3rd ed.).djvu
- Index:A handbook of colloquial Japanese (IA hand00bookofcolloqchamrich).pdf
- Indexes in English with one or more, not-proofread or empty, pages (they belong to enWS):
- Index:A dialogue between the crosses in Cheap, and Charing Crosse.djvu (and p1 and p2).
- Index:A Greek boy at home (1909).djvu (and p15 and p16, both OCRed in Greek).
Thanks! -Aleator 20:51, 24 September 2024 (UTC)
- Done Even those "proofread" pages were ones with no text. As for A Greek Boy at Home, that one is a little weird, since it is in a sense multi-lingual, but the English text is all prefatory material before the body of the work, which is in Greek. I'm not sure what the policies are at el.ws and if they would want to host this, so I'm at least leaving it here for now as it seems in principle it fits into the scope of this wiki. If the el.ws community wants it, I am happy to have it ported over there. —Justin (koavf)❤T☮C☺M☯ 21:13, 24 September 2024 (UTC)
- It is an unusable, bad Greek raw OCRed text. It is better the one at en:Page:A Greek boy at home (1909).djvu/15 and 16.-Aleator 21:55, 24 September 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, those pages are clearly not good and could be deleted, sure. I'm just saying the index itself and the work in principle could be here and since I know English, I could proofread the... 8%? that is in my native language. —Justin (koavf)❤T☮C☺M☯ 22:03, 24 September 2024 (UTC)

Abandoned translation of the English Wikibook "Salute, Jonathan!" into the constructed language Láadan; the translator appears to have lost interest after translating the title. Unclear to me whether this would be in scope even if there were anything here, as the source text only exists on Wikibooks. I'm opening a parallel discussion on that project about its admissibility there. Omphalographer (talk) 00:07, 29 September 2024 (UTC)
- Done Partial translations can stay indefinitely, but between the fact that this is just a handful of words long and it's in a constructed language that doesn't have much if any actual literature of its own, this was not worth keeping.
