Meeting[edit]

I'm back home now. Sorry that we didn't have a time for that talk. Will you be in Gdansk? There are still points which I would find interesting to discuss. Eclecticology 16:48, 26 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Nice to hear you've found a flight :-)... Yes, I hoped to meet you on Friday April 23 on a small meeting of German users from Berlin (I informed you about this in the hotel), but unfortunately I could not reach you by telephone and I didn't get any call from you. I'm really sorry about that, I would have gladly talked to you on some questions and points, too. Gdansk: no, I don't plan to go there. So, let us say "next time" somewhere... Anyway it was nice to meet you here shortly. Regards, -jkb- 09:28, 27 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Will it still be deleted? I could be deleted very easily using a bot. --Ooswesthoesbes 09:05, 28 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, it would be nice, it's too much to delete manually. But you need a bot with an admin flag - this can be granted by User:Eclecticology or User:ThomasV only. I would support it, and, if you would be so kind, you could delete also the Georgian pages that have been moved to Wikilivres. After I have imported them I made a list - see User:-jkb-/Moving Tabidze#import WL, orher titles, this section only, some 184 pages. Are you like to do it? Regards -jkb- 12:23, 28 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
(I'm sorry for my late reaction) Surely I would like to do it. Is there any page where I can request bot and admin state? --Ooswesthoesbes 07:07, 9 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Bot flags can be granted by bureaucrats. But in this case you need not only a bot flag but a sysop flag for the bot, and secondly, I would propose a temporary flag. Normally, temporary flags can be granted on meta when the community agrees. So I think the best is you ask for it on Scriptorium (with a link here to my page), I guess ThomasV or Eclecticology will give you the right answer. However, the pages must be deleted. Regards, -jkb- 09:11, 9 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Done. --Ooswesthoesbes 11:32, 9 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

RE: MediaWiki page[edit]

Oh, I thought it was equal in every Wikisource, but it isn't. Then, I would copy it from en:s:MediaWiki:Proofreadpage pagenum template, because "Page" namespace is also "Page" at oldwikisource. I think it would also work with es.source or ca.source. But fr.source has extra source, de.source says something about "Seite" (page), etc. It will create little "page"-links at the right side of the text transcluded from "page"s. Thanks and best regards! -Aleator (talk) 22:32, 19 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

So I hope it works, regards -jkb- 23:11, 19 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Perfect. It works: La profezia di Giona volgarizzata in dialetto sardo Logudorese. Regards. -Aleator (talk) 23:38, 20 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

2 things for you[edit]

Hi! Please, can you take a look at Wikisource:Scriptorium#Another_script_for_Common.js?

Also, can you add the following to MediaWiki:Common.css (taken from it.ws):

.poem {
	margin-bottom: 0em;
	margin-top: 0em;
}
.poem p {
	margin-top: 0em ! important;
	margin-bottom: 0em ! important;
}

I need it because when trascluding several pages together, every pages has its own <poem>, and putting pages together there is a "gap" between a page and the next. This is really ugly, especially when a stanza is half on one page, and half on the next: it appears split in two. See for example Ventiquattro Odi Scelte di Orazio Flacco/03, lines 26-27. Thank you very much! Ciao Candalua 13:28, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I hope... Tell me if there are some problems. Regards -jkb- 14:48, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Request for import[edit]

Hello,

There are texts in Breton misplaced in the French wikisource. They are grouped in this category: Catégorie:Textes en breton. Could you please import them to the "old" WS so that they are placed with the rest of the texts in Breton, in Category:Brezhoneg ? (I can take care of adding the category.) Then an admin can delete them from the French WS. Vigneron, an admin from there, already agrees that this is what should be done (see my talk page on the Breton Wikipedia). Kouign-amann 12:07, 26 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The import is no problem, I can make it soon. But I would like to know that the texts are PD (or able to be published here from any other reason). For instance, the author Denez Prigent (author of the text Ar grasoù) is born 1966, so he is not 70 years pma :-)...And somebody must change here the templates. Regards, -jkb- 12:14, 26 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The texts are definitely PD. Denez Prigent is not the author of any of them, he is credited for having collected some of them. I will take care of the templates. Kouign-amann 12:22, 26 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I will start now, but probably I will make the rest tomottow in the mornig. As far as I could see there were no talk pages to be imported. But let me make a remark to Denez Prigent: I hope it is ok, but sometimes making a collection can be copoyrighted as well (so at least in Germany). So, have fun, regards -jkb- 12:39, 26 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Done, 18 pages main space. Regards -jkb- 12:44, 26 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Kouign-amann 12:52, 26 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Request for deletion[edit]

Hi again,

I created Category:Gwerz by mistake, because I hadn't seen that category names should be in the plural form. I thus created Category:Gwerzioù instead. Can you please delete Category:Gwerz ? Kouign-amann 13:14, 26 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. Kouign-amann 15:02, 26 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Question : authors of texts in Breton[edit]

I created Category:Oberourien (authors). For now, it is under Category:Brezhoneg only. Should it also be under Category:Authors ? I wonder, because this category is supposedly for authors of texts in English, but is this statement still valid now that en.wikisource.org exists ? Kouign-amann 13:55, 26 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I think it is up to oyu. There are no guidelines for author namespace and author categories (some languages use the author namespace some do not). If you have the category Oberourien and you categorize it in Brezhoneg, so it is OK, if you want you can categorize it in Authors as well (just like a subcategory) which would be teh best I think. -jkb- 14:38, 26 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
All right, thanks. Kouign-amann 15:02, 26 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

How to rename[edit]

Hello,

Apparently, I cannot rename a page. Is it because some special right is needed ? If so, would you consider giving it to me ? I hope renaming is not only for sysops on Wikisource…

If allowing me to rename is not possible, could you please undo an archiving that was not done properly on Talk:Degemer:Brezhoneg, namely : revert to the first version of the page, by IP 88.160.92.186, and then rename the page to Talk:Degemer:Brezhoneg/Archive/1, or something similar. Then we'll have a proper fresh talk page. Kouign-amann 07:01, 27 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

We have here the same rules as the most projects - moving pages is allowed to all confirmed users i.e. users who are registered here since four days at least. Thus I think beginning today or tomorrow you should do it by yourself. However I removed the page as requested. Regards, -jkb- 09:01, 27 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
OK, thanks. Kouign-amann 09:11, 27 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

request for deletion[edit]

An Distro euz a Vro-Zaoz : wrong spelling (it is not correct in any of the spelling systems for Breton). Currently redirects to the right spelling. No page links to it.

BTW, is there a more centralised page for this kind of requests, so I can go bother someone else next time :-) ? Kouign-amann 13:58, 28 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You can insert the template {{delete|reason}} and additionally make a notice on Wikisource:Proposed deletions. Regards, -jkb- 14:41, 28 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
OK, thanks. Kouign-amann 14:49, 28 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Page mode issues[edit]

Hello,

I asked ThomasV (talkcontribs) about issues with page mode, but he doesn't have time to deal with them. The conversation is here, in French. I reported that using <page> causes a bug, with red links to Page:Ar rannoù being inserted in Ar rannoù. It seems to be due to iwpage, according to him (or is it the Page template ?). Also, it would be good if someone could add fields to the input form, like Contents and Translator. This requires updating the protected pages MediaWiki:Proofreadpage index attributes and MediaWiki:Proofreadpage index template. Can you take care of these problems, or point me to someone who can ? Kouign-amann 17:41, 28 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I think in this matter you ask better User:Zyephyrus, -jkb- 19:42, 28 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Done, I left him a message. Kouign-amann 20:14, 28 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Index:PL Słownik geograficzny Królestwa Polskiego i innych krajów słowiańskich. T. 1.djvu[edit]

The problem is, large parts of Słownik geograficzny Królestwa Polskiego i innych krajów słowiańskich are copyrighted under Polish copyright law (life + 70). So, after very long debate we decided to move it to multilingual Wikisource, because it was first published prior to 1923 (1880–1902 in fact). --Teukros 21:11, 31 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, OK. I saw just something on the main index page published 1880 and no names of the authors etc. Please see Template:PD-US-1923-abroad and the talk. Regards -jkb- 08:50, 1 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Question mark[edit]

Hey. Yes, it was making problems. A user reported it on IRC and I was able to reproduce. I know it shouldn't, but it did... You can try to move it back and if it works for you, then I guess it's fine now. Sorry for not responding sooner. Bye --Dungodung 18:12, 21 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Importing[edit]

Hi! Regarding Výlomky z Jánošíka, there's unfortunately no option in sk.wikisource's import page for importing from here (the only options are Commons and Meta). How should I do it? Also, I thought preserving the edit history wouldn't really matter copyright-wise since simple digitized PD text is not eligible for separate copyright. Or is there another reason for not deleting the old version apart from license compatibility? Regards, Jafeluv 11:03, 18 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I don't understand the policy here. Long time ago I suggested that we use the transwiki or import possibilities that the software is principially granting (there is a request neccessary, that's all), but the discussion did not occure. In my eyes it would be necessary that all active admins on the oldwikisource would have the possibility to import from and to other wikisources and from and to wikipedias with here commons languages. In present you could ask Jusjih if he can do it. But it is quite abstruse situation if there is one only user with these right. Regards, -jkb- 11:20, 18 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'll ask Jusjih about it on their talk page. Jafeluv 11:53, 18 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

categories[edit]

Thanks for the help. I'll add the categories to the various pages in the next day or two,i.e. regarding Category:Ivan Krilov‎ in double square brackets. Regards. Brcrisp 19:11, 4 December 2010 (UTC) PS Hope it is ok that I left this message here.[reply]

I have now added the categories to the various sections of Fabloj de I. A. Krilov. However, I still think I may have done this inappropriately, i.e. perhaps Ivan Krilov should not be a category at all but rather just an author (Aŭtoro:Ivan Krilov). If I now go to the Enhavtabelo (i.e. in the box just below Aktuala Ordigo) I see that Ivan Krilov is a category along with just Vikifontaro, Enhavtabelo, and Ĝermo. This doesn't seem right. Originally, I had thought that when I clicked on Ivan Krilov that the edit screen would show up as Aŭtoro:Ivan Krilov rather than Category:Ivan Krilov. Sorry about this. Guess I should have read more of the help pages before I started. Please let me know if there is some way I should fix this. Or do I perhaps need to create Aŭtoro:Ivan Krilov in addition to Category:Ivan Krilov. Regards. Brcrisp 21:13, 4 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The decision how to make author pages etc. is different from language to language. The best is if you discuss this with somebody who is working in the same language domain. Regards -jkb- 18:24, 5 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

OK. I'll do that. Thanks again for your help. Regards. Brcrisp 18:45, 5 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Bureaucrat[edit]

As you probably know, Thomas V resigned recently as bureaucrat, leaving me as the only bureaucrat. It would be good to have this position backed up. You are http://wikisource.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:-jkb-&action=edit&section=54one of three people who is already an admin, and who has the longevity and recent activity to warrant such an appointment. Please let me know your feelings on this. Eclecticology 08:40, 7 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No problem with me as I have the experience already. But, nevertheless, I would say the following: in the last time this project is suffering from no clear goals, no regluations etc. If I would start to work here more, so I would propose to discus some points like licences, copyright, categorizing of the languages. We have here a huge amount of copyvios, that must be deleted, and we must have a system to avoid them in the future. We need a system for such cases that every IP is inserting here something that nobody understands (up to now, I used to have a look at the google translator, but I am afraid I was the only one). We need to discus how to train up the users not only to make an own domain but also how to distinguish free and copyrighted texts (we had some great problems in the past, and some projects and languages do not care at all). For all this it weould be necessary to have a good team here to discus and provide this and to prepare some languages for the creating of a subdomain. At present nothing happens here. If we could start with this so OK, I'm interested. -jkb- 11:03, 7 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I have been using Google translator for a long time too; the problem is that lots of languages here are not translated by it! Yes, I am interested if there are several of us, and -jkb- I would be delighted to be a bureaucrat here if you are one too, and I wish Eclecticology remains as a bureaucrat here too, so we would be three bureaucrats. Then, if one of us desists, Ooswesthoesbes who has been here for a shorter time, would perhaps accept to succeed the one who leaves. Zyephyrus 12:50, 7 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Well, the problem with the translator can be solved later on, now we are at the point to discuss if we want to and how; thou, I would say, I would support both of you in the team and as bureaucrats - you and Ooswesthoesbes as well, as he is active here although "his" subdomain is gone, and he is also good technically and I think he could be a very good member of a team. So, my 2c :-). -jkb- 13:19, 7 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
If everyone agrees I can appoint 1, 2 or 3 new bureaucrats. It's not a job with a lot of work attached. In those circumstances the issue comes down to knowing that there is something there to be done, as most recently with Yuma's renaming. You also raise some other points that merit serious discussion. Do you have a priority list that we can attack in an orderly fashion? Beyond asking that, I'll try not to encourage this thread going off on a tangent. Eclecticology 21:04, 7 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I will support the one/two/three/four possibilities with pleasure: if the four of us as bureaucrats is possible, it is what looks best in my eyes, because we are more skilled together than each one of us separately. --Zyephyrus 06:31, 8 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I also fully support all of us four as bureaucrats. The regulation here indeed is quite problematic, f.e.: some category names are English (Category:Albanian), while others are in the local language (Category:Aragonés). Google translate is not a solution. Most languages available on google translate are "common languages", most of which already have their own subdomain. --Ooswesthoesbes 07:31, 8 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
@ Eclecticology: yes, I have some more points, I guess I need some (say) two days to make it in a written form and well structured. Not here, but I think on a special page where we could discuss such goals and changes in the next future. I'm working on it. And, as I said above, I support the idea with the four bsts. -jkb- 11:53, 8 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Great. We have unanimity to support my unilateral action appointing all three of you to the bureaucracy. It has now been done. Welcome.

On the other points, don't worry about them being well structured. If we are to have any hope of getting through them it will be by breaking up the list in manageable chunks, and beginning work with those where we have consensus first. Eclecticology 21:42, 8 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your trust and the flag. Today or tommorow I have a look on my notices and I will introduce them here. -jkb- 10:30, 9 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
