This page is to request new language subdomains (xx.wikisource.org). Wikisource language domains that already exist are listed on the Main Page.
Until a language subdomain is created
[edit]Until a subdomain is created for your language, you may always add texts to Wikisource in any language as follows:
- If your language is listed in Category:Main Pages, then use that local Main Page in order to add your texts. (A clearer list also appears at the bottom of the Main Page.) Don't forget to put each text you add into a language category (e.g. Category:Hindi).
- If your language not listed at Category:Main Pages, then please create a new local main page for that language, and include it in the local Main Pages category.

- 2. This is the second draft of the language (the first - Wikipedia). Translated Extensions used by Wikimedia - 85,94%, Extensions used by Wikimedia-Main = 99.72%
- 3. There is a demand for texts in the language of the Sakha and the people who can place the text in the draft. --HalanTul 05:07, 6 January 2011 (UTC)
Domain requests (cpl.wikisource.org)
[edit]I requests the creation of a Polish Wikisource written using Cyrillic script. This is so that way whoever speaks a language using the Cyrillic script can read Polish easily. Since some of its other sister Slavic languages use the Cyrillic script, it would be nice if at least a version of the Cyrillic script can be adapted for Polish. I know, this seems very crazy, but I bet that people never thought possible that Polish can be written using the Cyrillic script.
Requested by: Giacomo DiBenedetto 21:13, 2 July 2008
You can view the main page at: Main Page:Полски (now at User:IlStudioso/Полски John Vandenberg 23:16, 15 July 2008 (UTC))
- This page is called Former language domain requests. The right place to request is [meta:Requests for new languages]] now (you know that page already, cause they rejected your request for Cyrillic Polish Wikipedia there). But your proposal has no chance to ever get approved. Cause Polish already has its own project and Polish written in Cyrillic is still Polish. If you want to have Polish content in Cyrillic, you should ask the existing Polish Wikisource project to include it. They will say No, I guess.
- On meta:Requests for new languages/Wikipedia Cyrillic Polish you provide a transcription table. If it is possible to directly transcribe Polish into Cyrillic, why don't you just write a script to convert the text? --::Slomox:: >< 12:37, 5 July 2008 (UTC)

[edit]I request the creation of an Aramaic wikisource (arc.wikisource.org) so that the aramaic/syriac/assyrian community could upload texts in that language. An Aramaic wikipedia already exists. (arc.wikipedia.org). Aramaic, and it's Syriac dialect in particular, is a major classical language and thousands of uncopyrighted texts exist in that language.

Requested by: Theklan (meta),
- Hola Theklan. - These kind of texts are very welcome to de.wikisource. We already have texts written in Low Saxon and older variants of Low Saxon. --Finanzer 17:58, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

- To prevent that highly needed users in de.wikisource will run away. It's nothing else than regional patriotic motivation to request an wikisource in Low Saxon. Schaengel89 00:49, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
- We'd better focus our limited power at one project. Jonathan Groß 12:27, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
- The German Wikisource has too less users. The Low Saxon Wikisource will have even less users, so I think it would be better to use the German Wikisource, because there is already a active Comunity. -- Timo Müller Diskussion 15:55, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
- There has been NO, I repeat: N O, contact with de.wikisource before this request Ah, why do you think, somebody has to ask? Low Saxon is al language and High German is another. Contrariwise I ask: Why has nobody asked Low Saxon Wikimedians before incorporating Low Saxon texts in de.wikisource? You use the word Hostility? I remember a history of 500 years hostility of High German to suppress or incorporate Low Saxon. I requested a project for a language. A language which has its own history of literature for a 1000 years. I again ask disbelievingly: Hostility?
- To prevent that highly needed users in de.wikisource will run away. Why prevent it? If they want to contribute in Low Saxon, they shall do. In Low Saxon Wikisource.
- Splitting up low resources (participators and especially skills) doesn’t help anyone Whom does it help to mingle several languages in one project?
- Why so much fear? Your project was able to embattle seven voters in a day. It seems to be organized good. --Slomox 14:00, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
- Stop cussing. If you want to help the world, contribute to de.wikisource rather than taking this personal. 82.82.161.11 08:54, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
- We have not contacted de.wikisource before asking, just as we have not contacted de.wikipedia before creating nds.wikipedia.org. Please read the WP article about the legal status of Low Saxon: [3]: "Low German has been recognised by the Netherlands and by Germany (since 1999) as a regional language according to the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages." That kind of official recognition should be sufficient to warrant the creation of a wikisource for the Low Saxon language. And (frankly spoken) this is none of your High German business. 500 years of struggle for the language should be enough. We do not want to be "incorporated". HeikoEvermann 13:35, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
- You don't have to ask for permission but for second opinios if such a new project would be necessary / probable / and so on. Which it obviously is not. 82.82.170.242 15:46, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
- Stop cussing. If you want to help the world, contribute to de.wikisource rather than taking this personal. 82.82.161.11 08:54, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
Please notice, that according to the rules for voting no consensus is needed. Actually the rules state There is normally no "oppose" vote. The word normally makes limitations to this "no oppose votes" rule, but only for extinct ancient or artificial languages. A third borderline case are closely related languages where it is not always clear when a separate wiki is needed. This rule is what comes nearest to the oppose-votes of Standard High German Wikisource users, that opposed. But this rule too doesn't match really. The obvious lexical relatedness to English and Dutch shows, that Low Saxon is not a subsidiary of High German. The claim for representation is based not on relatedness, but on the fact, that High German is official and dominant language in Northern Germany, that the language pretendedly is fitting better to create and host texts in Low Saxon.
And don't forget the speakers of Low Saxon in the Netherlands (and other countries) not all able to understand Standard High German of de.Wikisource. High German Wikisource maybe a good place for High German dialects as Ripuarian [ksh], Bavarian [bar] and Allemannic [als], but Low Saxon is to be separated from them. When you look into an etymological dictionary, it will name Low Saxon/Low German cognates for German or English words. It won't do this for the three above-named dialects, except for special cases. For its linguistical differences Low Saxon is officially recognized as a language by the European Charter of Regional and Minority Languages.
And please bear in mind that only a one-day flashmob of High German Wikisource users opposed.
The main criteria for Wikisource creation according the rules are fulfilled. There are four active contributors to other projects in the same language (rule 2 and three under votes). Consensus is not relevant according to the voting rules. So please approve this request. --::Slomox:: >< 19:01, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
- You just don't get it, do you? Denn will ick aba ooch meen eijnet Wikisource ham!
--::Slomox:: >< 16:15, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

- Just to make things clear, this so-called "siberian language" is a pure Zolotaryov's invention, it's completely thought up and has no relations to the real siberian dialects (which, in turn, have almost no differences to the modern russian language, and hardly deserve their own wikipedias; in fact, most of the linguists do not even recognize them as dialects). Somehow Zolotaryov had managed to get his language an own wikipedia (mostly likely with the help of votes of his livejournal friends with whom he's working on his language), and now he's going all-out to preserve his original research nursery and expand it.
The majority of russian wikipedians considers all that "siberian language" thing a lame joke at best. For example, all the links to the siberian wiki on the russian wiki are hidden by default. Discussion on the proposal for closure of Siberian Wikipedia is worth reading, and the proposal itself is still not closed.

If needed I can take over administrator responsibilities of the new domain.
Starting a subdomain
[edit]Once you have added your request to this page, if there is consensus for it, please contact developers in order to have your subdomain created.
You can post a bug in http://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/, or talk to them on IRC, channel #wikimedia-tech.
Developers can move pages from here to your subdomain, in a way that preserves edit history. For that, it is better to prepare in advance a list of the pages that you want to be moved to your subdomain, before the new subdomain is created. You may get help from user:ThomasBot if you wish.
After your subdomain is created, please blank the pages that were moved with a redirect to the new wiki, so that users will stop editing these pages on the main site. Please also put these pages in a category, such as [[Category:Moved to xx]], where "xx" is your subdomain. This category will be used to delete pages once they are not needed anymore.
