Hello Singhalawap, welcome to the multilingual Wikisource! Thanks for your interest in the project; we hope you'll enjoy the community and your work here.

This wiki is the original Wikisource wiki, originally hosting works in many languages. The larger collections have been spawned into separate projects, leaving this wiki to serve as a central collaboration point, and as an environment where works without a language subdomain can be started. Refer to our Languages list to see which languages still reside on this wiki.

Most questions and discussions about the community are in the Scriptorium.

The Community Portal lists tasks you can help with if you wish. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me on my talk page! -Zyephyrus 12:37, 16 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi[edit]

Wow. You have started. It is great. Do you have any images of උඩරට ගිවිසුම. It will nice if you can upload if you have any. -- බිඟුවා talk 12:18, 18 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

User:බිඟුවා Thank you for starting විකිමූලාශ්‍ර soon after we realizing the need & importance සිංහල Wikisource.

Reply[edit]

Yes Bingu, I started but I faced a gig problem as The text typed in MS Office 2007 not appear correctly when pasted on wikiscource. You may have noticed many errors on what I uploaded.
Other than that I have to learn a lot on this.
  • How to create chapters.
  • Guidelines & practices in other (English) wikipedia
  • Hoe to upload images & way of displaying it on here.
Though I have started I may go little slowly as I'm facing an exam on next month.
I tried to find out an original copy but could not. I'm having few printed versions I will scan & upload. Hope there will be no copyright issue.
Thank you again. Singhalawap 14:45, 18 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with you as a concept. But what was there in Template:ප්‍රධාන ප්‍රවර්ගයන් were only categorized according to "subject of the word". We need to categorize in other aspects to make it more user friendly. Singhalawap 17:31, 22 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

language categories and main page variants[edit]

I notice you redirected or moved several templates and other pages to Singhalese pages and categorized several in Category:සිංහල. Templates like {{author index}}, which is intended for a latin-derived alphabet index, and {{nowrap}}, which is a formatting template, specific to no language, really shouldn't be categorized into any particular language, especially one that neither template is in. In addition, doing so is problematic, because most English speakers would find the templates useful but not be able to find them because of inability to read the categories.

Additionally, I notice that there are two variants of the mainpage in this category, one of which is not in Singhalese as far as I know but in Thai, or at least so I'm told. These should be in the form Main page/si not Main_Page:සිංහල, because "Main Page" is not a namespace.I have discovered this unorthodox method is apparently standard on old.ws. I have raised the issue at Wikisource:Scriptorium#Main_page_variants--Doug.(talk contribs) 20:32, 5 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Additionally, I notice a lot of templates that are in English but created in a single edit with the Singhalese category mentioned above and exist on other subdomains. Templates should normally be imported to preserve the edit history rather than just copy-pasted. The authors on other projects have a right under cc-by-sa and GFDL to be credited for their work.--Doug.(talk contribs) 21:06, 5 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
