Guilty[edit]

Yes, I did, the pages contain only an odd link. I didn't open it because I'm not curious. But the important is that the articles and categories had not information relative to Wikisource. :)

Situace[edit]

Hm. Já kdysi kdesi krátce nějakému vývojáři něco psal. Teď to nenajdu.

Cinik 62.240.182.4 10:01, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Mysterious Disapperance[edit]

Hello ther Mr. Admin. Recently, my fairly new wikisource login by the same name, "optomal7", mysteriously disappered from records. I lost my watchlist and my talk page, things I did not like losing too much. I don't know what power's that Admin's do and do not have, but I was hoping you could find out the mystery behind my previous accounts deletionif possible so I can keep it from happening again.

Hi. Are you sure you had an account on this multilingual wWikisource? I could not find any notice here. But there is an account en:s:User:Optomal7 on the English Wikisource, so the best you have a look there. -jkb- 08:02, 27 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

deletion request[edit]

hi! the people on the IRC channel #wikisource couldn't help me and pointed me to the deletion log to see who is admin.

could you delete Wikisource:Overig materiaal? The page is an orphan and has already been recreated on the dutch wikisource.

Thanks! Oliphaunt 13:08, 2 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nice idea, to search admins in the deletion log and not in the sysop log :-)... anyway, on this way you will get active sysops, that is true... Deletion done, -jkb- 13:57, 2 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

PD-manifesto[edit]

Sorry I'm so late in getting back to you. I was on vacation, and I've been extremely busy since I got back. I think we can go ahead and use PD-manifesto here, but we need to always keep an eye on those texts, as there is possibly a good chance that they might be copyvios. I don't know the intricacies of copyright law, so this was a sticky topic for me when it was proposed over on the English WS. And we should DEFINITELY have an index available of allowed and disallowed licenses on WS.—Zhaladshar (Talk) 01:02, 5 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

subdomain requests[edit]

Is the page Wikisource:Language domain requests maintained actively? Or is there another way to request a subdomain? I wanted to request nds.wikisource subdomain. It should be uncontroversial, so how is the best way to do the request? --Slomox 01:47, 8 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It is active, don't worry be happy :-), -jkb- 11:53, 8 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
--Slomox 20:38, 8 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
So, there is no decision how long the request will stay on the request page; at the moment the mean problem is, that there were created some 20 subdomains in the past and the most of them do not work at all. We have really great problems with that. I guess in the future the decisions will be made individually. The best way to get an own subdomain will be a good work here, i.e. first a longer existence of the language wikisource on these pages, secondly its continuously growing, and thirdly a couple of people who will show they will take care of the subdomain after its creation. - - - Weil die Frage allgemeiner Natur ist, antworte ich Englisch, damit auch andere nachvollziehen können, was besprochen wurde. -jkb- 08:38, 9 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I am clueless as to what you are talking about on my user page. Please explain. Does this have anything to do with the David Ferrie article I created being deleted? Category: Nolav[edit]

This category is now empty (the pages were moved to Category:Nolav (Vper) instead. Actually, I have a little organizational question; maybe you can help me with it. The point is that there are two versions of Volapük, an earlier one (by Johann Martin Schleyer, 1879) and a 'revised' one (by Arie de Jong, 1932). The versions are not so different ('dialects', you might say), but still they're different, so I end up having to set up two versions of each category: Poetry-Voriginal, Poetry-Vrevised; etc. Is there a way I can cross-use categories? Can I list somewhere, for instance, the pages that belong to both, say, Category:Poems and Category:XIX century, instead of having to set up a new category, Category:Poems from XIX century? Thanks in advance! --Smeira 19:40, 26 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

CatScan can do this, but it is only on Toolserver and not integral part of MediaWiki, so I don't know whether this is fitting for you. --::Slomox:: >< 20:08, 26 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Volapük Subdomain[edit]

Hi -jkb-! Thanks for your kind words with respect to my Volapük materials! It's nice to hear someone say this sometimes -- it's not like Volapük is the most popular language in the world... I had thought about getting some other Volapükists to start editing and adding things, but that is a bit difficult: Volapükists are not many (there are maybe 40-50 in the whole world, half of them only beginners), and most of them are somewhat old-fashioned and not really so computer literate. Ralph Midgley, one of the best -- he's the active voice in the Yahoo group Volapük -- is still not at home with Wikis; he's actually asked me to put some of his stuff up in Wikibooks (which I'm also trying to do -- strangely enough, there already was a volapük subdomain in Wikibooks, with no activity whatsoever...). So my hopes that there could be other volapükist co-editors who really speak the language and are interested in the materials aren't really very high. Unless a new Volapükist comes out of nowhere, I'll probably be the only one for quite a while (Do you happen to know anyone who'd like to learn Volapük and become a contributor? -- s/he could start with Vükiped, the Volapük Wikipedia...). Of course I find a subdomain a pretty thing -- you can get all the system messages in Volapük and create a Volapük-only environment, you can go fast to your main page by clicking on 'Main Page', the statistics refer only to your language and not to a number of them -- but I also appreciate the idea that it would be a little bit funny to create a subdomain only for me. I wouldn't mind it myself; but I also don't want to give a bad example, and up until now I've been able to do everything I wanted right here. (Also, I'm a bit afraid of 'transwiki-ing' everything to a new subdomain -- I have a number of links from the Volapük Vükiped to wikisource; what would happen to them if all texts here got transferred to a different subdomain)?

Another thing I thought about, though, was becoming a sysop here. That would make it easier for me to e.g. delete old pages and things like that, without having to bother you guys. I've been a sysop for a while at Vükiped, and more recently also in Vükivödabuk - the Volapük Wiktionary. However, I admit I don't have much experience fighting against vandalism -- there's been very little of it in the Volapük wikis (one advantage of being unimportant, I think -- nobody wants to vandalize you, since there's no glory in it...). What do you think? --Smeira 21:25, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Deletes[edit]

Hi jkb! I have some more pages to delete from the Volapük section of wikisource, listed in "Proposed Deletions". Maybe you could delete them when you get a minute? Thanks! ---jkb- 20:00, 12 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: PD of the Chinese government?[edit]

While the website says "all rights reserved", that translation does not note who translated, so presumably it might qualify for s:en:Template:PD-CN as the embassy might have translated it as the translating author. My experience suggests this: look for individual translators' names. If there, the translations might not be very governmental. If not there, maybe governmental. However, I cannot guarantee that my statement is true.--Jusjih 12:16, 19 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Uncategorized pages[edit]

Hello,

I will add a category for pages in Hindi and Sanskrit. Since categories redirect does not work, it is better to keep Category:Hindi and Category:हिन्दी (the second is Hindi in Hindi language). Regards, Yann 13:56, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OK. Sure, the redirects do not work, but if needed, it can be done by a bot, and as far as I know Smeira has one or something like that. But, I cannot give him a bot flag what would be necessary as the recent changes would get a catastrophe. Next time, you can answer also on your talk page as I am watching it. Venetian Wikisource[edit]

Thank you for the welcome.

There is a lot of Venetian in literature, starting from the Reinassance. I hope many of those works will have their place on Wikisource. :)

Kind regards, --Achillu 21:15, 7 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I found some sources in Venetian on it.wikisource; I was told that they can be imported here by an admin using the Special:Import page. What do you need to know in order to import them? I already put the question on Wikisource:Scriptorium but no one answered yet.
Thank you in advance.

Question[edit]

We have several texts written partially in Belorussian, but partially in Russian. Can they be used in Belorussian Wikisource? --Yaroslav Zolotaryov 15:49, 1 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. What means partially? Is it one bilingual page or two different pages? If it is bilingual, so you must decide it, if it is necessary to have it here on the belorussian pages (the category, anyway, should not be russian). In both cases, these texts should be on the russian wikisource as well. -jkb- 16:02, 1 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

For example, we have collection of documents about our classic writer Francisk Skorina. Some of them are in Russian, some in old Belorussian, some in modern Belorussian, but all of them should be out in one article, because this is archive documents about one person, there is no need to divide them by language. And this person is Belorussian classic writer, he is of no interest for Russians. This is similiar as if Czechs would have some small documents about their writer in German, but some in old Czech, some in modern Czech. All this small documents should be put in one article. --Yaroslav Zolotaryov 16:08, 1 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your welcoming)--Yaroslav Zolotaryov 16:10, 1 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I see. Well, I guess it is up to you. If you think, that a Belorussian Wikisource should content some Russan texts as well, and if you think it is helpfull, so do it. (I suppose, the Russian Wikisource will - may be - publish it as well). The only one criterium is, if it is public domain or not. That is all.

Ok. thank you for the answer.--Yaroslav Zolotaryov 16:46, 1 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
