Hello Xover, welcome to the multilingual Wikisource! Thanks for your interest in the project; we hope you'll enjoy the community and your work here.

This wiki is the original Wikisource wiki, originally hosting works in many languages. The larger collections have been spawned into separate projects, leaving this wiki to serve as a central collaboration point, and as an environment where works without a language subdomain can be started. Refer to our languages list to see which languages still reside on this wiki. You can find a list of the separate language projects on the main page or here and you may want to look at the our coordination page for limitations on placing certain works on the separate language projects.

Most questions and discussions about the community are in the Scriptorium.

The Community Portal lists tasks you can help with if you wish. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me on my talk page!

Publishing my Gaelic translation of Dubliners in Irish Gaelic WikiSource[edit]

Hello!

Could you help me with publishing my translation effort within the Irish Gaelic section of Wikisource? Jon Harald Søby, the person you recommended to me, does not seem to be available at the moment. Your advice so far has been very helpful. I followed all the steps you advised and transcribed my translation onto each page of the scan of Dubliners you provided me with (File:1917 Dubliners by James Joyce.djvu). If I've understood correctly, someone else needs to check that my translation corresponds to each page in the original English work before it can be accepted and published. You described the process as having four working parts. If that is the case, there is nothing more I can do until someone checks my translation. What can I do to move things along? Could you recommend a volunteer on Wikisource who could check it and accept it? I'm eager to see this Muintir Bhaile Átha Cliath appear as a finished work on Wikisource.--Leibide (talk) 14:23, 27 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Leibide: Oh, Jon Harald is probably around; they're just very busy so unless they get a notification they probably won't notice you've written them a message. For example, in the conversation on your user talk page you included a link to Jon Harald's user page in your first message on 26 May. When you saved that message the software generated a notification to Jon Harald, the same way you will get a notification (the little red number thing at the top of the page) when I save this message because I have included a link to your user page (even if you haven't created the page yet). Jon Harald saw the notification and responded on your talk page on 27 May. But when you replied on 28 May you didn't link Jon Harald's user page, and so they got no notification. Most likely that is why they didn't follow up further.
Regarding the specific question you have, I fear I have lead you astray a bit with my original explanation of how Wikisource works. It is true that our processes are set up so that two different people independently verify each page, the first setting the page status to "Proofread" and the second setting it to "Validated". However, in most cases it is not required that all pages be Validated before the work can be published. This is somewhat up to local policies on each Wikisource, and I am not familiar with the policies here on Multilingual Wikisource, but I would generally be surprised if a work couldn't be published as soon as it is completely Proofread.
In addition, the term "published" isn't what we usually use here: the process you're thinking of is what we usually call "transcluding to mainspace" (how's that for impenetrable jargon? :D). What that actually means is a mainly technical job of setting up a structure of wikipages, and then putting in them the right commands to let the software understand that "On this wikipage, grab the text from page 123 to 456 of Index:War_And_Peace.pdf, and concatenate them together for reading." The structure of wikipages is going to be something like a top level page for the whole work like War and Peace, and then subpages for each chapter or other suitable subdivision, like War and Peace/Chapter 1, War and Peace/Chapter 2, and so forth.
I'm happy to help with that, but 1) I can't make any promises about how quickly I can get to it, and 2) since I'm not familiar with the local policies on Multilingual Wikisource I may make mistakes that necessitate changes (particularly since this is a translation, which is relatively rare here).
In the mean time, please feel free to "ping" me (what we call it when deliberately causing a notification to be sent) with any questions. Xover (talk) 15:25, 27 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Oop! I've only just noticed your message now. Now I have the correct term for what I was calling publishing -transcluding to mainspace! I reached out to Ankry because I had not read this message. Sorry about that. I will just work with Ankry rather than get more people involved now.Leibide (talk) 17:55, 2 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Leibide: Never hesitate to leave me a message here on my talk page (I get email notification for those), or sending me a "ping" (using either {{ping|xover}} or linking to [[User:Xover]], both of which will give me a little red notification icon). If you get completely stuck on something I'd be happy to help out any way I can and I really do not mind. In fact, I am truly embarrassed that we haven't been able to get your translation completely set up yet after such a long time and am eager to make amends! :) Xover (talk) 18:11, 2 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
