Gedichte Hesse

@Ankry: LOL! I had been expecting to hear from you, specificallyǃ I saw that you'd proofread Page:Gedichte Hesse 1919.djvu/112, which I recently improved. I also saw that you'd had trouble with Page:Gedichte Hesse 1919.djvu/199, so I improved that too. German is my second language, and I can read w:Fraktur; so, expect me to do more of that sort of thing. I am working my way through all the Gedichte Hesse 1919 pages in Category:Not proofread. Correcting each page takes about 10 minutes. If you follow my progress, you may be able to upgrade more pages to proofread status. (I do not think it right that I should mark my edits of such pages, which are in effect total rewrites, as proofread. Also, I do not know all the subtleties which ensure that a Wikisource transcription accurately reflects the formatting of the original.)

Once I've done those pages, I may look for other projects suitable for a w:Wikipedia:WikiGnome. w:WP:DPL, my main area of interest, is now down to a maintenance level of activity (see w:WP:TDD, especially Table 1). Checking and correcting texts in Wikisource may not be the most important task in Wiki, but it is important nonetheless (I've seen the backlog in s:Category:Pages by proofreading status...).

A question about punctuation. I refer to w:MOS:PUNCT (which of course applies to English Wikipedia only). Does that policy relating to ' and " and their variants also rule in Wikisource? Older texts often use curly apostrophes and quotation marks for no good reason other than local custom, and I would prefer to use the straight versions unless there is policy dictating otherwise. (On the other hand, it seems to me obviously essential to transcribe punctuation which is non-standard in English such as „” and «» exactly as written, no matter what MOS:PUNCT might say.) There is almost no guidelines in this project, and very few rules. So users have a lot of freedom here and almost anything is based on consensus between them. I made some edits here as I noticed that some pages are proofread already and not transcluded to main (assuming: maybe the user who proofread them few years ago did not know how to do that?). I also removed some formatting which I found ugly (especially when using the monobook skin) and I would like to point you that page numbering should generally go to the header field. IMO, for projects that already have domains (de, pl, fr) it would be nice to use formatting templates compatible with those used in their native wikis to avoid problems like here in future (however there is a lot of time till 2033, so I do not see this highly critical). Feel free to import appropriate templates from de.ws if you wish or create placeholders for them (that link to/uses other local templates here). I did not proofread the TOC as this is time-consuming and I am unsure whether using Polish templates is suitable here and I did not find anything appropriate in German. Feel free to change the formatting as you wish or continue my proposal. Concerning punctuation, I think it would be better to follow de.ws rules (if there are any) than en.ws ones. And generally, it is up to you whether you follow original formatting and how much. I do not plan to work on this book a lot, so feel free to revert my changes if you disagree with some of them: no objections. Ankry (talk) 08:59, 3 January 2019 (UTC)
