Hello Lee, welcome to the multilingual Wikisource! Thanks for your interest in the project; we hope you'll enjoy the community and your work here.

This wiki is the original Wikisource wiki, originally hosting works in many languages. The larger collections have been spawned into separate projects, leaving this wiki to serve as a central collaboration point, and as an environment where works without a language subdomain can be begin. Refer to our Languages list to see which languages still reside on this wiki.

Most questions and discussions about the community are in the Scriptorium.

The Community Portal lists tasks you can help with if you wish. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me on my talk page! -Zyephyrus 17:32, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

... and subpages:

Could you please, add information about: author, copyright status and where and when this work was published.

I am moving these pages from Sinhala Wikibooks, because they are tagged for move. But I do not have all the information on copyrights ready with me. Do you have any suggestion on what I should do? --Lee (talk) 02:57, 25 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
You should not move pages with unclear copyright status or without evidence of earlier publication to Wikisource. They may be considered out of scope. If somebody is requesting a page to be moved here or moving it, they are expected to provide the required information. Ankry (talk) 14:01, 17 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Concerning copyrigt status, we need an evidence:

  • that the work was published before 1923, or
  • that it was not copyrited in the initial publication country in 1996 (if first published 1923-Feb 1989), or
  • that its author died more than 70 years ago (if first published in March 1989 or later), or
  • that it was initially published in 1923-1977 in US (some extra conditions apply then), or
  • that it is not copyrygted (eg. because it is some legal document), or
  • that the work's author or their heirs published it under CC-BY-SA or CC-BY license.

If the text was first published in 1969, I think that any of the above is unlikely. Ankry (talk) 14:21, 17 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

hmmm.... I think you are right. However this book "සූර්ය්‍ය ශතකය" seems to be a much older book, say something like originally published 200-300 years ago. I searched the net and got this information on a much recent revision/publication (which I included there). So there is a chance that the text I moved might be in public domain. Is there a way to check on that? --Lee (talk) 14:52, 17 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
If this is posthumous publication, many years after author's death, it is likely that it has been PD already when published. {{PD-old}} applies than. And some info about the author on the author page (especially when did he live or when died) would be useful. I failed to find anything in Sinhala Wikipedia, however.
