زندگی کچھ اور شے ہے، علم ہے کچھ اور شے
زندگی سوزِ جگر ہے، علم ہے سوزِ دماغ
علم میں دولت بھی ہے، قُدرت بھی ہے، لذّت بھی ہے
ایک مشکل ہے کہ ہاتھ آتا نہیں اپنا سُراغ
اہلِ دانش عام ہیں، کم یاب ہیں اہلِ نظر
کیا تعجب ہے کہ خالی رہ گیا تیرا ایاغ!
شیخِ مکتب کے طریقوں سے کشادِ دل کہاں
کس طرح کبریت سے روشن ہو بجلی کا چراغ!
