So far suggestion of sources for establishing this list include:
- the top 1000 Wikipedia articles about works per page view.
- The 500 most important German literary works
- Where most important is defined as number of Wiki sitelinks. Can be adapted for other languages by modifying change the Q188 and the language code.
- Canon of Dutch Literature
- Wikisource:Canone delle opere della letteratura italiana
- Viquitexts:Els 50 essencials de la llengua catalana
- Translationum created by UNESCO
- List of notable writers, as queried from Wikidata
However, some subdomains forbid Wikisource translations. Other subdomains may allow such translations.
