Re: Emily Dickinson[edit]

Hi. Nice work on the index system. Congrats.

Anyway, I'm using the three volume The Poems of Emily Dickinson compiled by R.W. Franklin (ISBN 0-674-67622-X). I changed the title links to coincide with the first variation and included every variation on the same page (i.e. Sic transit gloria mundi and "Sic transit gloria mundi,"). I don't think these are standardized in any formal way (i.e. no "correct" title considering that there are other more significant variations of the first lines), so I'm open to any suggestions. More Dickinson[edit]

Hi. I really like what you're doing with Dickinson's poetry. I was wondering if anyone would take it upon themselves to add all 1700+ of her poems, and I'm glad to see that someone finally has. I like just about everything about her poetry's pages--the template you've created and the table you've created for her works and for all the other works you've added. I do have one suggestion, though, concerning the small table that says "Preceded by:/Succeeded by." It's not all that aesthetic the way it currently is on the page, so I experimented with this page and added the two tables together. It makes the page a bit more compact and eye-appealing (I think, at least :) ) and I still think people would notice what poems came before/after the current one. Would you mind too much if I went ahead and did this with all the other pages? Of course, if you have any comments/objections, please tell me. Zhaladshar 19:08, 7 Jan 2005 (UTC)

I'd be glad to help clump the two tables into one and with reconciling some of the pages with two or three poems on them. I haven't found one yet, but when I do, I'll work on it to try to make it look nice. We might be able to have the poems going down columns on the page, kind of like a newspaper. Or we could do something similar to O Tannenbaum (separate each poem). I'll get back to you when I've come up with something (if anything). Zhaladshar 19:27, 7 Jan 2005 (UTC)
I just worked on two poems with more than one version: Sic transit gloria mundi and On this wondrous sea. I didn't do a whole lot to them--just added the table and template and indicated each version with "Version 1" and "Version 2." I personally think they look fine this way. It isn't too cluttered and the fact that they are different versions are clearly indicated. Feel free to work with them yourself, though. We could always space the two versions out a bit, or we could put them one on top of another (although that would make a fairly long page). Zhaladshar 20:02, 7 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Incidentally, I've only included variations of the first ten poems (where applicable). I don't know about any of the others. I haven't been able to work on any of the others as yet. If you've decided on a different format, let me know. DonQuixote 03:31, 9 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Poetry categorization[edit]

Hi. I was going through Category:Emily Dickinson Poems - T and I noticed that a lot of the poems in the category are there because the title starts with a "The." Since it's an article, shouldn't we change the categories and categorize them according to the second word? | 15:35, 20 July 2005 (UTC)

There are a hefty amount of them. Also, I've been viewing the categories as something as an index of first lines. I was hoping to categorize all the poems, and then I would put the pages that were created to handle them up for deletion. I've been going through and recategorizing a fair number of the poems because of the way it picks up capitalization (i.e., a poem with the title "A D..." will be put before a poem with the title "A z..."). The books that I've been referencing list the "The" poems as belonging to the "T" section of the index as well. Tell me what you think of this idea and whether I should go ahead with it. I'll suspend recategorizing for now. --Khaldei 15:44, 20 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, thanks. I see what you are doing. I guess I think you're method is the right one. Since her poems don't really have and real titles (they're all the first line of her poems), we should categorize all the ones that start with "the" under "T." | 18:59, 20 July 2005 (UTC)
