being greatly ashamed and enraged at the destruction of his idol, went into his palace and lamented to Alexandra how much he had suffered at the hands of the Christians. q zen Aloxandra reproached him for having maltreated tiem, whereupon Dadianus laid hold of her hair and sagged her out before the governors, and told them what ul happened, And they ordered that she should be first tripped naked and tortured on the wooden horse, and en that she should be beheaded, which took place the 15th day of Pharmuthi After these things adianus the governor passed sentence of death upon eorge, and each of the sixty-nine other governors signed ,and George rejoiced greatly. And while the seventy svernors were sitting at meat George prayed to God, and fre came down from heaven and consumed them; and When he had prayed concerning the resting place of his ody and the welfare of all mankind, he was beheaded on lie 23rd day of Pharmfthi. When George had been be- eaded, Pasikrates and Lukios and Kirennios his servants ime up and took away the head and trunk, and laid them igether, and they:went and bought spices, and embalmed the h ody, and laid it in a rock hewn tomb outside the city. And i, chanced that the captain of a merchant ship from Joppa p a in at Tyre to sell his cargo, and the servants of George ban gained with him to carry the body of George to Joppa. When it arrived there a certain kinsman of George called licontins provided horses, and they carried the body to Lydda or Diospolis, together with an account of George’s sufferings and martyrdom written by Pasikrates his servant.
