thing considered, the word putóg was the best equivalent I could find for pudding, though the English word, as now used, corresponds rather to the filling or stuffing of the putóg when cooked. I have used the words spioraideaṁal and taiḋḃreaċ in a new sense, that of ghostly, ghost-like. There are many other points on which I could write a commentary, but I leave them to the good sense and indulgence of the reader. For the convenience of learners the paragraphs, and even the punctuation, correspond to those in the ordinary six-penny edition of the Carol. In conclusion I beg to express my obligation to my gifted friend, Mr. J. J. O'Kelly, who read the proofs and gave other substantial assistance in the preparation of this version.
