MANY Readers of Mr. Yeats' beautiful Play "Kathleen Ni Houlihan" must have felt, as the writer has felt, a desire to see it clothed in the native speech of the people whom it seeks to arouse to a deeper consciousness of the duty of self-renunciation in the cause of the Motherland.
The version here presented to the public was awarded First Prize at the last Saṁain Celebration promoted by Cumann na nGaeḋael. It is now reproduced, by permission, from the columns of The United Irishman.
I have appended a Glossary in preference to an ordered Vocabulary as being more helpful to students who may have an opportunity of seeing a performance of the play with this booklet in their hands.
The dramatic rights of this Irish version belong, by arrangement, to the Irish National Theatre Society.
