"Nuna asiilasooq" (Danish: "Et vældigt klippeland", English: "A Huge Rocky Land") is a Greenlandic song used as an ethnic anthem by the self-governing Kalaallit Inuit people of Greenland. It was officially recognised by the government in 1979. Both lyrics and melody were composed by Jonathan Petersen, who wrote the musical score for Greenland's 1916-adopted national anthem "Nunarput utoqqarsuanngoravit."

Danish translation[edit]

Et vældigt klippeland
fik Grønlands folk i eje
𝄆 med fjeld fra strand til strand. 𝄇
Og ved de dybe fjordes vand
var godt at bo og bygge
og øers perlerække bandt
et bånd langs kystens rand.

Det er en lykke og en lyst
for dem der er på rejse
𝄆 langs landets lange kyst, 𝄇
at strejfe om fra syd til nord
og møde nye venner
hvor gæstfrihed og glæde stor
i lave hytter bor.

I høje fjeldes ly
hvor fjorden møder havet
𝄆 de bygged bygd og by. 𝄇
De levede med kunst og flid
af havets rige vande
– fra nu og indtil evig tid
er det kalaallits land.

English translation[edit]

A huge rocky country
Greenland's people got in possession
𝄆 with fjeld from shore to shore. 𝄇
And by the deep fjords' water
was good to live and build
and islands' pearl row bound
a band along the coast's edge.

It is a happiness and a desire
for those who are travelling
𝄆 along the country's long coast, 𝄇
to roam from south to north
and meet new friends
where hospitality and great joy
in low cabins live.

In high fjelds' shelter
where fjord meets sea
𝄆 they built village and town. 𝄇
They lived with skill and diligence
by the sea's rich waters
– from now and until eternity
is the Kalaalit's land.
