Minsa’y nakapulot ng buto ng atis
ang isang dalaga. Pagdating sa bahay
sinabi sa ina ang kanyang naisip —
buto’y itatanim at aalagaan.
“At ang punong-atis paglaki’t namunga,
bunga’y sa palengke agad kong dadalhin;
ang mapagbibilhan” anyang nakatawa
“ay ibibili ko ng hikaw at singsing.”
Pagalit ang inang sinugod ang anak,
kasabay ang bantang kinurot sa singit:
“Ipagpahiraman ang iyong alahas
at nang putukan ka sa akin ng lintik!”
