« Vivei para viver », o epicurêo dizia,
« Os prazeres gozae do passageiro dia! »
« Vivei emquanto viveis, » o pregador exclama;
« Dae a Deus cada instaute rapido qual chamma, »
Seja tudo, Senhor, n’um só desejo unido;
Feliz só eu serei, se em ti houver vivido.

« And give to God each moment as it flies! »
Lord ! in my wish let both united be;
