Different behaviour in la.source

Forgive my ignorance in javascript. I'm stuck: while working in la.source I'm trying a crosswiki (la-it) proofread transcription: please have a look at s:la:Pagina:Hymnus in Romam.djvu/61 and let me understand what should I do to have

Hi. This could be a todo or a bug, or just a curiosity. It's about references tag. Two situations, both not working fine:

• If oldsource page Page:Boletín RAE VI (1919).djvu/200 is transcluded from s:es:Página:Boletín RAE VI (1919).djvu/200, we get "Cite error: <ref> tags exist, but no <references/> tag was found" at es.source.
• If s:en:Page:The gloria d'amor of Fra Rocabertí (1916).djvu/13 is transcluded from s:ca:Pàgina:The gloria d'amor of Fra Rocabertí (1916).djvu/13, references don't appear at ca.source. Neither if using iwtrans template nor iwpages template (test example).

Another example: s:fr:Malbrough, which transcludes text with one reference from ca.source shows the parser message, whatever you type. Any ideas to bypass it? Avoiding the use of the reference tag? -Aleator (talk) 23:10, 20 May 2010 (UTC)

Vigneron has solved the problem on FR.WS. If I understand it correctly, the references tag was working twice because it was in the transcluded section and it was in the page where it was transcluded too, so Vigneron has removed the tag from the transcluded section. --Zyephyrus 22:34, 21 May 2010 (UTC)

How to have a page pointing to another subdomain

I'd like to reproduce the "Its text comes from...'" line in this js as appearing there in English and French, but translated into italian ("Il testo proviene da..."), or Latin ("Hic textus visibils est in ...") - Is it possible to add these lines in the script? εΔω 20:36, 13 April 2010 (UTC)

• la.source: {{Iwpage|la}} produces "Haec pagina emendanda non est. iwtrans it.wikisource.org."

Unfortunately the problem seems to persist even after thomas intervention... and there seems to be another one.

Iwpage and Internet Explorer

Maybe it's an already known bug, but template:Iwpage doesn't work with Micro$oft Internet Explorer. Pages with that template appear empty and without any redirection. I temporarily devised a "mock up", but that isn't thought as a solution. - εΔω 15:51, 9 May 2010 (UTC)

So for me: IE v.8 cannot load oldsource javascripts, so its functions (e.g. interwiki transclusion) cannot be performed, so page appears empty:

Hi. The templates from Category: Interwiki link templates have stopped working. I'm trying to guess how to fix but if anyboy knows howto, please tell. Now I cannot see the text at those three examples:

Help: it.source fix

Hello. At ca.source we're transcluding text from other domains when necessary. E.g., ca:s:Llengua i cultura a l'Alguer durant el segle XVIII: Bartomeu Simon/APÈNDIX 3 from it:s:Lettera di Bartomeu Simon a Domenico Simon (14 febbraio 1790). Now it doesn't work (whatever the "it.source page" it is), but any other page from any other Wikisource works fine. I'm lost with complex scripting but I see a "it fix" that may be related. Very funny, I did't even know it was possibile to transclude from ns0 to ns0. The problem is that on it.source we have an invisible "data section" enclosed between <onlyinclude>, so this section is all that it's being transcluded. Now I can't remember, but I'm sure there was a good reason for doing so! :-) A solution is to manually add onlyinclude around the text that you want to transclude (like this Candalua 10:46, 20 August 2011 (UTC)

This break because we pass to the parser text="{{:title page}}<references />" not the wikicode itself, this is why also we can't try to remove the includeonly in js, the script never see the wikicode, only the title and in the callback function only the html where it's too late to try to fixup the thing. The old way to do that was to call the parser with title="page _title" rather than text="{{:page title}}<references />" I'm unsure why we need to add a < references /> forcing us to parse a tranclusion of the page rather to parse the page itself. — Phe 12:34, 20 August 2011 (UTC)

Comparison with mw:ScaryTransclusion

I was thinking about it recently, and now I've generalized it to make it work for other projects (at least wikipedia, news, books, quote, wiktionary should work). To try it:

• include the scripts on your user javascript:

Yes, well, it's still not perfect (links in the trascluded texts are wrong) but it can be fixed (I did it in 5 minutes :-). I never tried ScaryTransclusion. If it's really "scarily" inefficient as they say, InterWikiTransclusion should be better (it just calls the APIs to get a page, more or less like the "usual" way). I think it's very good for visualization; on the other side, you have to wait the ajax call to complete, and the trascluded portion is not really "inside" your page, I mean: you cannot use the other page like it was a template. Hmm, interesting. As an aside (Since the question was asked above) this isn't anymore efficient than ScaryTransclusion [from the perspective of the wiki where the transcluded template is hosted on, its actually slightly less efficient, since its akin to hotlinking]. However, provided you're just transcluding stuff from Wikimedia wikis, I wouldn't worry about that. However, one thing that is concerning is that the list of projects isn't a whitelist. Someone could specify an arbitrary url, which could be controlled by an evil person. This could be exploited (XSS) to do evil things. Bawolff 15:08, 7 December 2011 (UTC)

I'm working on a Book written in Greek and Italian language. I notice that in InterWikiTransclusion.js there's no code for the Page word in Greek... I'd suggest to modify this script adding

I think this could do the job (I cannot check it properly because of interferences between similar javascrits). For (1) what about deleting page_ns_prefixes declaration, and replacing this line:

title = page_ns_prefixes[lang]+":"+m[1];

, with this other line:

title = "Page:"+m[1];

, as suggested above.

For (2), I suggest splitting the pagename and replacing Bengali numbers with latin ones. One suggestion could be, instead of this line:

I added the suggestion to remove page_ns_prefixes[] and to use the canonical Page: namespace instead. For the second problem, it's a bit more difficult because we need bi-directional translation, from en to bn number script and from bn to en we need the reverse translation. — Phe 16:44, 2 February 2016 (UTC)

Done, it works to transclude from fr.ws to bn.ws, it doesn't from bn.ws to en.ws but I think it's an unrelated problem, in the js console I get "ReferenceError: init_setting is not defined" when testing this script on bn:. @Bodhisattwa: Some possible solutions suggested:

(a) updating bn:MediaWiki:PageNumbers.js with just the functions missing at bn and contained in the English MediaWiki[s] (e.g. init_setting function is present at en:MediaWiki:PageNumbers.js).

(b) at bn:MediaWiki:Common.js importing the oldwikisource version instead of the bn.version, also moving bn.translations (like self.ws_messages) to Common.js. Then delete the unnecessary bn.Pagenumbers.js.

(c) updating the whole bn.Pagenumbers.js as the en.Pagenumbers.js; or importing at Common.js the en.version instead of bn.version. Also will need to move bn.translations (like self.ws_messages) to Common.js. And finally delete bn.PageNumbers.js.

I think you have to delete bn:মিডিয়াউইকি:InterWikiTransclusion.js (because the "good", fixed, one is captured from bn:মিডিয়াউইকি:Common.js) and then fill again bn:পাতা:Dialogues, Intended to Facilitate the Acquiring of the Bengali Language.djvu/২২ with {{iwpage|en}}. Same Index with different title

Hi @Aleator, Phe:, this bilingual book has a Bengali title (মঙ্গল সমাচার মাতিউ রচিত আর মঙ্গল সমাচার য়োহন রচিত) and a English title (The Gospels according to St. Matthew and St. John, in English and Bengalee). Now, we have already created the Index file in BnWS with the Bengali title. Hi, @Bodhisattwa:! I think it is not possible.

Test: I've temporarily created ca:Index:মঙ্গল সমাচার মাতিউ রচিত আর মঙ্গল সমাচার য়োহন রচিত.djvu and 2 pages. When I made a redirect of the index to ca:Index:The Gospels according to St. Matthew and St. John, in English and Bengalee, the index page broke (pages missing and one error message noticing that the file didn't exist). Then I reverted, and tried to rename one page (ca:Page:মঙ্গল সমাচার মাতিউ রচিত আর মঙ্গল সমাচার য়োহন রচিত.djvu/31 to ca:Page:Test/31); the text from ca:Page:Test/31 can be captured from bn.source with {{iwpage|ca}}, but ca:Page:Test/31 is missing navigation buttons (next page, prev. page, index) so it's also broken for me. (I'll delete those test pages at ca.source in a week or so).

Suggestion: I think there has to be no problem for creating a Bengali Index in English Wikisource. So you could proofread English pages at en.source, and transcluding English text at English Wikisource (e.g. en:The Gospels according to St. Matthew and St. John, in English and Bengalee); or the full text in whatever Wikisource you prefer.

Tip: For bilingual books with alternating pages (e.g. page 10 in Bengali, page 11 in English, page 12 in Bengali, page 13 in English, and so on) it is very useful to use "step" keyword; e.g. <pages index="মঙ্গল সমাচার মাতিউ রচিত আর মঙ্গল সমাচার য়োহন রচিত.djvu" from=10 to=20 step=2 /> will transclude pages 10, 12, 14, 16, 18 and 20.

fromsection / tosection / onlysection

@Candalua: I made fromsection / tosection parameters optional again. (Actually this hits only fromsection as empty/bogus value for tosection gives the same effect as no tosection). Requirement of a value for them had broken usage in en.ws.

BTW, maybe also an empty value of onlysection could by interpreted as no value and fromsection / tosection used in such a case (when the sixth parameter - onlysection - is present, but empty)? IMO, adopting this behaviour would simplify templates. But unsure about backward compatibility problems (if there was an intentional use of empty onlysection anywhere). @Candalua: Your opinion? Hi Ankry! Bringing this to your attention: we had issues with texts with special characters in the title (namely "), and Valerio found some security issues in the script. I wonder if in Polish there are no texts with problematic characters in the title that would potentially benefit from revising this script; for instance, I'm having issues in transcluding Indeks:„Jerzy” i „Fragment” which uses „ and ” Cheers Ruthven (talk) 15:07, 21 January 2022 (UTC)

@Valerio Bozzolan: for your TODO: No, we can’t use the .done() method of the returned Promise, because mw.loader.load doesn’t return a Promise (it returns nothing). And even if it returned a Promise, that Promise couldn’t be fulfilled with the data due to cross-origin restrictions; this is why JSONP is used here instead of a usual JSON-based API request. —Tacsipacsi (talk) 20:56, 8 February 2022 (UTC)

Template:Iwpage has stopped working universally

@Ankry: Template {{Template:Iwpage}} has stopped trascluding pages from and to apparently all wikis, here are some examples: In a local page, in the english, french, greek, and italian Wikisources.

Not working on mobile, but en.source

Mobile views of pages that use {{iwpages}} work on en.source (e.g.). But for a reason I cannot understand, it doesn't work on other Wikisources: fr.source, it.source, es.source, la.source, pt.source, vec.source, ca.source... neither here, on mul.source.
For example, the following code {{Iwpages|fr|Revue catalane X.pdf|85|85|invadits|invadits}} works even in preview mobile on en.source (switching on the gadget that calls MediaWiki:InterWikiTransclusion.js), but not in others. Desktop views are OK. Any ideas? Aleator 18:25, 11 November 2023 (UTC)

Looking at frwikisource, I couldn’t find any gadget to turn on. The code is loaded from fr:MediaWiki:Common.js – Common.js isn’t loaded on the mobile domain. Either these wikis should also migrate InterWikiTransclusion to gadgets, or they should load it both from Common.js and Mobile.js (the latter is loaded only on the mobile domain). —Tacsipacsi (talk) 12:09, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
