This page collects requests for deleting specific articles from Wikisource. If you want a page deleted for copyright reasons please list it at Wikisource:Possible copyright violations. If you think a page should be deleted for any other reason, please list it here so it can be discussed. Articles remaining on this page should be deleted if there is no significant opposition. Use {{delete}}.

If requesting deleting any pages to be moved to language subdomains, please try to have edit history imported to the destinations. Asking any active importers or administrators there is preferred. Otherwise, global sysops and stewards may be able to import.

File:Progreso - 8a yaro.pdf[edit]

This file contains 2 volumes of the periodical 'Progreso'. I think it should be deleted and the volumes added separetely with their original names (Tomo VIII and Tomo IX instead of 8a Yaro).

Also I’m not sure of the copyright status. The volumes were not published in 1908 as mentioned in the description of the file, but in 1931 and 1932. Rosacentifolia (talk) 17:08, 1 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

If there is a reason to split the file, anyone is free to do it. Also, feel free to fix the description if necessary. Copyright doubts may be a reason for deletion by they need to be raised more precisely. Ankry (talk) 17:25, 1 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, not sure how to handle this. Is there a way to split the existing file ? Or should I re-upload a split version of it ?
The only infos I have regarding the copyright are the publishing dates written on the covers, 1931 and 1932, and the year of death of some of the contributors : 1969 for S. Bakonyi, 1999 for A. Matejka. I don't know if that’s enough to prove copyright infringement. Rosacentifolia (talk) 21:43, 1 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Ee Grasse Widdowes Zorrow[edit]

Tagged by QueerEcofeminist (talkcontribs) as a test page; I have no opinion myself. Eviolite (talk) 17:54, 24 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Eviolite: QueerEcofeminist (talkcontribs) Not a test page, objecting per reason stated. Language conservation is vital for this language at this stage of revival, so I am uploading text documents and poems in the language that are of notoriety in the community. I plan to upload a photo of the source document as well when I can be sure that it wont be erased.unsigned comment by MichaelDMelvin23 (talk) .

I think it's high value to keep minority language material. We really need a source for this, tho. What am I even seeing here? Can someone provide an author and a source? —Justin (koavf)TCM 16:59, 25 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I tried to google it but had no success. -jkb- (talk) 20:36, 27 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@-jkb-: Kovaf (talkcontribs) This document, Ee Grasse Widdowes Sorrow is a folk tale passed down for generations and thus the author is unknown, however this specific edition is copied down from a contemporary source during the languages’ use, found in a private collection. It also appears to have been edited at a later date to fix spelling errors. Is there somewhere I should upload a picture of the source document? unsigned comment by MichaelDMelvin23 (talk) . @Koavf: -jkb- (talk) 18:13, 28 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@MichaelDMelvin23: Thanks. Yes, please do upload a copy of a scan to Commons if that scan is in the public domain or has a free license in the United States and its home country. If it's only in America, upload it here. If you need help, please let me know. Also, the {{ping}} tool only works if you sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). Very much looking forward to this edition of this folk tale. —Justin (koavf)TCM 22:10, 28 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@-jkb- @Koavf @QueerEcofeminist Uploaded! The document is in the public domain by many many years lol. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Ee_Grasse_Widdows_Sorrow.jpg However I did mistitle the file name, thats okay though, should have "Widdowés Zorrow" instead of "Widdows Sorrow". @MichaelDMelvin23: Nice. I renamed the file. Thanks. —Justin (koavf)TCM 22:10, 1 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@MichaelDMelvin23, I think issue is resolved now. My issue was unsourced material. Now that we have a source to tally the content. I see no issues. Thanks and regards. QueerEcofeminist (talk) 01:55, 2 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

License information is necessary to kanji annotation. Original annotator may be 外間守善(1924-2012). if he is annotator, licence is not lapsed yet. P9iKC7B1SaKk (talk) 12:34, 6 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@MathXplore: - Hello! As this is a Japanese text on Multilingual Wikisource, can you confirm if this is out of copyright to be kept on Japanese Wikisource or if it is likely under copyright? -- Satdeep Gill (talk) 07:19, 26 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
In Japan, copyright protection will be given for 70 years after the author's death (Agency for cultural affairs, Japanese Government). So if the annotator is going to be counted as the author, this content cannot be public domain. To make the discussion easier, I think the author must be identified. If I delete this page, then I will delete the translation as well. It is not present on zh.ws. —Justin (koavf)TCM 15:17, 30 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
??? It is present on zh.ws, no? Zhxy 519 (talk) 15:18, 30 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There is no comparison and re-translation of the Hungarian original text on zh.ws. Sowhat666 (talk) 17:01, 30 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think www.wikisource.org need to do comparison. The original poem can be found at hu.ws and it got translated in many langs. If people need, just move to its page in those langs. Zhxy 519 (talk) 20:24, 30 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If you can link to the hu.ws page, then I will ensure that they are connected via a Wikidata item and delete the local page. Thanks. —Justin (koavf)TCM 22:26, 30 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
They are all connected via Wikidata. Zhxy 519 (talk) 14:07, 31 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Can an admin keep this page as I have some reasonable grounds to keep it!
(1) First of all, the content of the old Chinese translation is quite different from the original work. It is a free translation by the translator, adding the translator’s own meaning, and is not completely loyal to the original work. For example: the meaning of the first(生命誠寶貴,) and last lines (二者皆可拋。)of this poem are not included in the original work. There is a little suspicion of distortion, so it is necessary to add the original work for comparison!
(2) If it is really necessary to delete this Chinese translation, there is no need to delete the entire page. Only need to delete the Chinese translations included in the Chinese library. The new Chinese free translation and literal translation on this page and the Hungarian original text comparison can still be retained. . Sowhat666 (talk) 15:38, 31 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see any necessity at all. You are taking ws.org just as a place to upload your personal translation works. Even if they are valuable, zh.ws is enough for you. Zhxy 519 (talk) 23:34, 5 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Wikisource:Jimbo Wales against attacks on userpages[edit]

Technically not an essay. Just quoting and an example, but no point. If the author want to keep it, it can be moved to their user sub page.--Zhxy 519 (talk) 15:24, 30 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Jusjih:, it looks like you tried to have it moved once already. Do you object to userfying this page? —Justin (koavf)TCM 22:28, 30 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. I strongly object to userfying this page. Hoping to peacefully solve this matter without pointing to any specific users, sadly some Chinese wiki users have been stalking around on certain matters, not here to build a better free library. The essay is derived from a portion of w:zh:Wikipedia:用戶頁#我的用户页不可以放什么内容? mentioning Jimbo Wales, so I consider userfying this page unacceptable under my userpage. I also consider the nominating user calling it no point as unacceptable.--Jusjih (talk) 22:50, 30 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The essay also extends wmf:Policy:Terms of Use#4. Refraining from Certain Activities, so I further object to userfying this page.--Jusjih (talk) 02:42, 4 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Koavf:Ooswesthoesbes deleted it just for "nonsense" that I strongly disagree as an improper procedure. Please provisionally undelete it to continue the discussion.--Jusjih (talk) 22:01, 11 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Ooswesthoesbes: Undeleting as I'm not 100% sure you saw this discussion. Please chime in here. —Justin (koavf)TCM 05:24, 12 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Quotes go to Wikiquote, and not to Wikisource, so this is an obvious deletion to me. --Ooswesthoesbes (talk) 07:54, 12 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. If you feel like deletion is warranted, I won't undo it. @Jusjih: if you want this page exported and you think there's a good place to import it, let me know. —Justin (koavf)TCM 08:07, 12 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Ooswesthoesbes, Koavf: it's not totally obvious to me but I would also lean toward deletion. My point is that we may need a similar policy but the page is very bad as it is (almost just an old quote that bring almost nothing), if we want to keep it we would have to rewrite almost everything, so no real reason to keep it. Cheers, VIGNERON (talk) 08:21, 12 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
s:en:User:Beleg Tâl/Jimbo Wales against attacks on userpages has much better content than the page being considered for deletion here. Thus I hereby offer a compromise to let any administrator to delete it like a duplicate with some simple conditions:
  1. Please write in the link in the reason while "Moved to the own language subdomain" may be used from the menu.
  2. This compromise does not constitute me accepting Zhxy 519's motive or purpose while having too few edits here. Considering wmf:Policy:Terms of Use#4. Refraining from Certain Activities and our interactions across several wikis before [1], I am about to raise an interacting ban from him it in the Scriptorium soon.--Jusjih (talk) 03:16, 15 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

February 2024[edit]

All documents uploaded by User:Sowhat666[edit]

Sowhat666 is taking www.wikisource.org as a place to upload their personal translation, which are mostly unnecessary, and can be done in local zh.ws. See [2].--Zhxy 519 (talk) 23:32, 5 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The first thing I see in his contributions is a page that is in Chinese, English, and some Indian language. Multilingual works should reside here: why would a work in three languages go to the zh.ws domain? @Sowhat666: which languages are you translating into and which are you translating from? —Justin (koavf)TCM 23:57, 5 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Those works are not originally multilingual ones. As Sowhat666's previous message above, they is just putting all langs together in one page here for "comparison". Zhxy 519 (talk) 01:45, 6 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
《梨俱吠陀》/曼陀羅 1/讚美詩 1 (ऋग्वेदः - मण्डल १)
I translated it from the original Sanskrit text into Chinese. Since ancient texts, such as Sanskrit, have multiple meanings and can be translated into sentences with different meanings, I then refer to the translations in other languages! I also add the authoritative original translation in English so that others can see the characteristics and differences of different translations. ! Sowhat666 (talk) 06:17, 6 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Usually the original work lacks Chinese translation, or the Chinese translation has copyright restrictions, or the original text can be translated into other meanings and versions, so I translate it! Sowhat666 (talk) 06:29, 6 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The formatting is a bit strange and should be improved (like put the texts in column or in juxtalinear if the goal is really to compare them). Also, the sources are lacking, it should be clearer where each part comes from. In the end, it's a bit unusual but I don’t see strong reasons to delete (nor to keep to be honest), especially is the presentation is enhanced. Cheers, VIGNERON (talk) 12:00, 6 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Support: Sowhat666 has been sloppy in their work on Chinese Wikisource (currently under a second block), and has come to Multilingual Wikisource to continue the same work under even less scrutiny. Fish bowl (talk) 00:26, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Many bilingual works that use English as the metalanguage are housed in English Wikisource already. I don't see why it should be housed here as well; it would be a duplication of efforts. Justinrleung (talk) 15:22, 6 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This seems like a bi/tri-lingual book, so it should reside here. I agree that we shouldn't duplicate efforts, but one of the functions of this project is multilingual texts. @Fish bowl:. —Justin (koavf)TCM 22:24, 6 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Koavf: So does that mean bilingual/multilingual works should be both here and at English Wikisource? Or all the English Wikisource books that are bilingual should be moved here? Justinrleung (talk) 00:29, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Bilingual books should be here. —Justin (koavf)TCM 01:03, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
User:Nma jeni seems to be part of some project to translate works to Igbo. While a Cantonese-Igbo dictionary would be fascinating, I do not see the value in an abandoned index (user was active for less than a week) on which no work has been done, and it has led to confusion such as this deletion request.
